THE ART JOURNEY BANDUNG-BANDA 2024 is the first phase of the long-term culture program of exchange between artists from Indonesia and worldwide entitled THE INTERNATIONAL ART SANGGAR. The team of artists, culture-makers, musicians from Europe, Taiwan and Indonesia went for a long journey by ferry from Jakarta to Banda Neira, on the way facing challenges on cultural, personal, psychological and artistic levels. Such a model of together-traveling helps to get to know the cultural differences and similarities, making friends on the way and understanding what’s ahead of us, creators of various international exchanges & projects, when we reach a certain spontaneity of decision-making process and yet, being far from our regular way of working and being. Our idea though comes from a place of friendship and collaboration history, mutual respect to traditions and work, openness to new stories, awareness of the need of mutual education and trust in reshaping the institutionalised models of culture-exchanges also working towards decentralisation all the ways. We will also work with postcolonial stereotypes and cliches we faced during our art -enterprise. Next steps are working on the film and art-book, a manual that could serve various people working on international culture exchanges between Asia and Europe. When this part is completed, a series of events is planned in Indonesia and Europe and public discussion with various audiences.

Krzysztof Lukomski art/curatorial residency is supported by Adam Mickiewicz Institute as part of the program Polish Culture in the World. The Adam Mickiewicz Institute is promoted by the Minister of Culture and National Heritage of the Republic of Poland.
