backgrounds, both geographically and culturally.
This special screening is a captivating presentation of films that
delve into the depth of culture and tradition from various
perspectives. Through carefully selected five films, the audience is
taken on a cinematic journey that enriches their understanding of
Indonesia's cultural richness.
From reflections on the changes in the Benjang art tradition to
experimental narratives about the Cingcowong ritual, each film
offers a unique insight into how culture evolves and changes over
time. Experimental, documentary, and fictional approaches also add
diversity to the viewing experience, providing various ways to
reflect on the meaning behind cultural practices that are sometimes
considered mysterious.
As we witness the absurd world in "Lamun," stimulating our thoughts
on gender roles in society, we are also confronted with the struggle
between belief and religion in "Cigalumpit."
However, amidst all the changes and challenges, there is a voice
speaking about the importance of preserving cultural identity. From
the reverence for Balinese indigenous traditions in "Rwa Bhineda" to
efforts to balance modernity with local wisdom, each film highlights
the need to preserve our cultural roots in the face of increasingly
strong globalization.
With the diversity of themes and approaches offered by these films,
the audience is invited to reflect on and enrich their understanding
of Indonesia's cultural wealth and the importance of protecting and
advocating for the nation's cultural heritage. Through the
organization of this event, we hope to encourage deeper dialogue
about culture, identity, and change in our contemporary society.
